WASHINGTON shoppers are being warned to take note of new parking rules which come into effect at the Galleries from today.
In a bid to ensure free parking for customers is always available, the centre is now stepping up monitoring of the car parks and will act on any misuse.
The Galleries currently has 2,200 parking spaces across its car parks, which include 84 disabled bays – most of which are located outside of ASDA and Sainsbury’s.

There are also numerous family parking spaces available, along with motorcycle and EV charging bays across the site.
The new rules mean all shoppers can still park free for four hours, but anyone wishing to stay longer will now have the opportunity to pay for extra hours using Pay by App – there are no options for cash payments.
From today, there will also be a crackdown on the following – and non-compliance may lead to a charge of up to £100:

- Vehicles parked in a disabled bay without a badge
- Non-electric vehicles parked in EV charging bays
- Vehicles parking on double yellow lines
- Vehicles parking in drop off zones
- Vehicles parking in no stopping zones or within hatched areas
- Vehicles parked outside of an allocated bay
