WE’VE suffered lockdown for just about every other occasion over the last 11 months and now it’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day without going out.
While many of Washington’s small businesses are already fully booked with Valentine’s orders, it’s still good to shop local wherever you can.
Washington Way has scoured the town to find the best Valentine’s Day ideas and offers currently available, but please note these are expected to book or sell out quickly.
FOOD OF LOVE
Takeaways have become vital to survival for Washington’s eateries and just because you can’t eat out this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your favourite meal from your own home.
Many local restaurants have special Valentine’s offers running on Sunday night.
San Lorenzo is offering special Valentine’s Banquet boxes for takeaway, available from Friday-Sunday February 12-14. Pre-ordering is advised, see the Menu section of the San Lorenzo website for details.
Vinyl in Washington Village is serving delicious Valentine’s Cake Boxes priced at £16.95.

The Ox & Plough in Oxclose is offering a Valentine’s Day twist on its Sunday lunch after teaming up with Michael’s Forever Flowers in Concord to add a bouquet of choice to be delivered with Sunday lunch.

Carter & Fitch at the George Washington is serving Valentine’s Afternoon Tea to take away priced at £11 per person and available from Friday-Sunday February 12-14.
You can’t go wrong with a good piece of jewellery, so why not check out Kings Jewellers in the Galleries which is offering 25 per cent off diamonds and gemstones throughout February?
Although the store is currently closed, shoppers can call and arrange a view and collect visit in a safe, socially distanced environment. Call 0191 417 8669.
Pandora, also in the Galleries is also closed but is offering a full selection of Valentine’s gifts on its website.
We may be still locked-down, but the Spa at the George Washington Hotel is offering a selection of Valentine’s offers to give your other half something to look forward to.
Among the deals is the Tender Touch package which features a 30-minute Elemis Intensely cleansing salt scrub, foot soak and pedicure, one hour in the relaxation room and bottle of Prosecco, priced at £70 per person.
Remember, you don’t have to spend a fortune to make a difference on Valentine’s Day so check out your local supermarkets for a selection of gift ideas.
Sainsbury’s, Asda, M&S Food, Aldi and Lidl all have a selection of flowers, bubbly, chocolates and other gifts along with plenty of ideas for dining in, including Sainsbury’s Dine in For Two which features a choice for three courses plus wine or chocolates for under £20.
And don’t forget your card! Remember, most local shops will have a selection of cards so give them a try first but if all else fails, the big stores have plenty in stock.
