EATING OUT: WE TRY THE 2 MEALS FOR £20 DEAL AT CHAMPS

Champs 2 Meals for £20 review

WE’RE all looking to save cash at the moment, without scrimping on the things we actually enjoy – like eating out.

There’s no shortage of great places to eat in Washington but feeling a little cash-strapped after the holidays, we decided to kick September off with a trip to Champs Sports Bar and Grill in Ayton.

For a while, I’ve been keen to try the 2 Meals for £20 menu, which features a number of Champs’ most popular dishes and at a tenner a head, it seemed a really decent deal.

I popped by with a friend for a Tuesday afternoon late lunch and found a few groups and families there, enjoying drinks and food.

I tend to get to Champs every four-five months for bite to eat so I had an idea of what the food would be like – and knew I certainly wouldn’t be leaving hungry.

Ever a fan of a hot roasted meat sandwich, I was pleased to discover a Pork & Stuffing Sandwich on the menu, served with gravy and chips.

Pork and Stuffing Sandwich with chips and gravy…

My friend had been determined to have the American Dog before we’d even arrived – but their mind was changed after another check of the menu and the BBQ Chicken Loaded Fries jumped out.

We’d chosen to sit in one of the booths in the right hand side of the bar as it was a little quieter. There was no-one at the bar so ordering took seconds and we didn’t have to wait long at all for the food to arrive.

The pork and stuffing sandwich came in a soft fresh white roll with a side pot of gravy. It was accompanied by a decent portion of chips.

It was really tasty, the bun lovely and soft – definitely very fresh – and there was a nice portion of very nice pork. The stuffing was good too – enough to taste but not too much to be overpowering.

There was plenty of gravy which was thick and very tasty. The chips weren’t bad either – personally I would’ve preferred fries but that’s just personal taste!

The BBQ chicken loaded Fries were steakhouse seasoned and topped with chicken tenders covered in hot honey BBQ sauce with spring onions, cheddar cheese and bang bang mayo.

Again it was a good size portion and everything was good. The chicken was tasty and fries, cheese and spring onion were delicious, too. We felt there was possibly a little too much BBQ sauce but again, that’s a personal preference – the overall verdict was ‘very tasty’.

Champs can be found at Dunnock Drive, Ayton

For a tenner apiece, it was definitely good value for money. I was full for the day and am already looking forward to heading back to try something else. It’s certainly worth a visit!

Champs’ 2 for £20 menu is served daily seven days a week and there is also a large main menu, desserts menu, kids menu and gluten free alternatives available each day.

Champs is located at Dunnock Drive, Ayton, NE38 0EF.
