SPONSORED REMEMBRANCE DAY POPPIES START TO GO UP IN THE VILLAGE

PREPARATIONS for Remembrance Day at Washington Village are now underway, as this year’s poppies begin to appear.

As Washington Way reported last month, the poppies have been a regular fixture in The Village for a number of years and are put up each year for the four weeks surrounding Remembrance Day.

Barbara Tansey and husband Jim have been the team behind the bright red poppies for the last six years and this year, they’ve created more than ever before.

New for 2026 are a number of wooden poppies for ex-servicemen, current servicemen and veterans, which are taking pride of place around the Cenotaph.

The others are being installed on lampposts, railings and other parts of the village, thanks to help from volunteers at Washington Village in Bloom.

The poppies will remain in place until two weeks after Remembrance Day, when they will be taken down and stored away, ready to be repurposed next year.
