A WASHINGTON born and bred vintage trader is hoping for local support this week when he brings his already successful NE Vintage Takeover to town.
Washington Vintage Fashion Market, the town’s first contemporary vintage clothing event, will bring 15 independent traders to the Art Centre this Friday, September 18.
The free event will give shoppers the opportunity to discover thousands of unique and sustainable fashion piece from a host of sellers from across Washington and the rest of the North East.
NE Vintage Takeover is the brainchild of former St Robert of Newminster Catholic School pupil Neale McGeever, who has run successful vintage and retro events across the region – and is now thrilled to finally be able to bring it to his home town.
“I’ve wanted to bring a vintage clothing event to Washington ever since I was a student at St. Robert’s, just over the road,” he said.
“Now I get to bring 15 wonderful sellers to my home town and give the residents a chance to shop sustainably. Please come and grab a one-of-a-kind vintage piece.”
The market will feature vintage clothing spanning a wide range of styles and eras, including Y2K fashion, streetwear, sportswear, band T-shirts, designer pieces and up-cycled clothing.
It will give people in Washington access to the kind of contemporary vintage shopping events increasingly popular in larger towns and cities, while providing a platform for independent traders and encouraging a more sustainable approach to fashion.
“If this one is a success, then I plan to make it a regular event here in Washington,” Neale added.
Washington Vintage Clothing Market takes place at Washington Arts Centre this Friday, September 18 from 3.30–7pm. Entry is free.
