WASHINGTON residents still have time to attend a handful of local sessions to discover more about the proposed Metro extension to the town.
Earlier this month, Nexus revealed plans for a long-awaited expansion which could finally bring the Metro to Washington, including the creation of two new stations.
Subject to relevant approvals, it is hoped work would begin in 2030 with the first trains to arrive in the town in 2033.
Keen to involve residents and the wider community in its plans, Nexus is running public consultation drop in events throughout September where the public can view the plans in closer detail and also leave feedback.
The events have so far proved popular, with many people from across the town looking to learn more.
At each drop in, large display boards show the plans in detail and there is a team on hand to chat, explain more and answer any questions.
There are also feedback forms which all visitors are encouraged to fill in before they leave and all comments will be looked at closely.
There are just two more drop ins here in Washington – one tomorrow, Saturday September 19 at The Galleries and one more at Columbia Community Centre on Tuesday – along with two more at Sunderland and one at Pelaw:

- Tuesday September 22 – Columbia Village Community Centre, 5.30-7pm
- Wednesday September 23 – Tansy Centre, South Hylton, 10am-noon
- Friday September 25 – Pelaw Metro Station, 8.30-10.30am and 5-7pm
- Saturday September 26 – The Bridges Shopping Centre, Sunderland, 10.30am-1.30pm
